Buffalo State offers the only undergraduate urban planning degree program in the State University of New York (SUNY) system. Urban planning is a discipline focused on effective change and development in an urban setting. It has many subareas ranging from land-use planning to public service planning.
Buffalo State’s staff of full-time faculty members is joined by professional planning practitioners who bring real-world experiences to the classroom.
Most planning courses have a strong link to local community organizations and many planning majors participate in an internship during their junior or senior year. Students gain hands-on experience working on real-world urban planning projects at organizations such as the Greater Buffalo-Niagara Regional Transportation Council, Erie County Department of Environment and Planning, and the City of Buffalo Office of Strategic Planning.
